Uppsala Universitet

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm at home now in Fort Myers. We went fishing today - the weather wasn't that great - but Jay caught a nice Red and I caught my maiden fish on the rod that Jay gave me for Graduation...took me a while, but let's be honest, not a lot of time for fishing in grad school. I guess I should MAKE time, but a Gator's gotta have her priorities during football season!

Anyway, I was telling the family about the university where I'll be studying in Sweden - Uppsala Universitet and thought I should share here:

"Uppsala University was founded in 1477 and is the oldest university in the Nordic countries. The long tradition of research, in tandem with innovative thinking, guarantees the high quality that has garnered international acclaim. Today's research and education build on deeply rooted traditions of learning. Living tradition and culture are part of our strength.

Carl Linnaeus, Anders Celsius, Olof Rudbeck, and Erik Gustaf Geijer are some of Uppsala’s renowned figures from the past. Eight Nobel laureates have also helped make the University known all over the world.

Uppsala University boasts a large number of ancient traditions, symbols, and festivities that have survived as a natural part of academic Uppsala today.

The University is unmatched as a cultural force in Uppsala. Uppsala University’s art and science collections are unique, musical activities are incredibly ample, and museums are extensive. Uppsala University has a rich heritage to cherish. Huge science, art, and cultural history collections have been kept at Uppsala since medieval times."
